Mowing
With the combination of bluegrasses and fescues that are most popular in Utah, we recommend mowing your lawn between 2 1/2 and 3 inches long. This will help develop stronger, deeper root systems. The longer grass blades will also shade the low growing weeds and prevent them from receiving the sunlight they need.

Watering
Overwatering is a common problem in lawn care. Overwatering creates a perfect environment for weeds to grow and ultimately weakens your lawn. For example, if water is applied every day, the roots accumulate
in the top 1 to 2 inches of soil. This creates weak plants
that are more subject to insects, disease and drought
damage.
Train roots to penetrate deeper into the soil by
changing the watering schedule to every other day for a
couple of weeks, then every third day.
Eventually the grass responds and develops a root
system to match the watering schedule.
